I will soon be back with the African stories. But now…
I have been long convinced that most visitors in Poland miss the real stuff. If you can, be in Poland in Spring. Don’t go in any town; stay in the countryside. The silent, annual, natural festival of life happens every April and May in the forests, meadows and swamps. The abundance of green beauty is breathtaking.
Large part of the country is covered by forests. These forestry roads are normally open to public and you’re free to explore.
Lakes, also easily accessible, add another dimension to the beauty…
Oak trees stand out among others: majestic, often gigantic, and in the olden times, sacred.
Chestnut trees are normally less distinguished, but this changes in the early May when the chestnut blossoming that happens.
One surprising observation after some months in Africa is that the green is actually greener in Europe…
More images, mostly from Opole region, are on my social media.
Made me want to pack up and see this. 🌳
This brought back my own springtime in Poland - one of the happiest stretches of my life. I was living in Wrocław. We’d buy kielbasa (my favourite was kaszanka, the blood sausage), then cycle out to the surrounding villages - cobbled roads, half-finished homes - and light a barbecue in the long light of early evening. We’d find a village bar, drink beers with the local dziadeks, then swim in the river to shake off the smoke and sun.
A wonderful, evocative piece Pablo.
